Maybe it's just me but in the last week I have read several posts on this board referring to the antenna sweet spot. I haven't heard of this before so, If anyone can give me feedback on where the sweet spot in on a "99" Dodge Quad Cad is I would appreciate it. I'm having a heck of a time with a Monkey Made MM5 and I'm just about ready to go back to the Wilson 5000.Thanks Rick

The "sweet spot" is reference to the location of the antenna on the roof that provides the lowest SWR reading. It may/may not offer the best pereformance though. For optimal performance you would want to mount the antenna centered on the roof. This will give you your best omni-directional radiation pattern. If the antenna is moved towards the front (better tx/rx going towards the rear) or rear (better tx/rx going towards the front) of the vehicle your pattern will become more directional. Some like to start with the antenna centered side to side and about 12-18 inches from the rear of the vehicle, then move it forward a little at a time until they find the "sweet spot" that offers the lowest SWR. I prefer to center the antenna on the roof, and if the SWR isn't acceptable I correct it through adjustment of the radial (whip) and grounding (bonding) of the vehicle body panels.

IMHO go back to the Wilson and put it on your roof if you can. In reference to the sweet spot: I got a Wilson trucker 5000 mounted on the spare tire rack of a 99 Chevy Tracker on a mount I fabricated. it hears very well if i am driving towards the signal but if i am traveling the opposite direction it doesn't hear as well. rule of thumb the highest point of your vehicle is going to be best and in the center should be fine to RX and radiate signals efficiently.
