I was close to pulling the trigger on the General Lee, but then I saw that Sparky has a "Cobra 29 LTD Black Chrome HIGH POWER EDITION" that sounds really sweet. I wanted the GL because of it's known-performance, not for the extra bells and whistles or extra channels. Does anyone have one of the HP Edition 29-LTD rigs? How do you like it? I would not be running an AMP with this.

I have a Black chrome 29 from Sparky's. I didn't order it as "the high power" version. But I did get the Mosfet final upgrade in it which is the same as the high power comes with and it's loud and powerful. It swings great with tons of audio. You won't be disappointed. It's a gorgeous radio as well.

I have a sparky'd 29ltd B&C HP edition.. couldnt be happier with it. Great with amp or with out.. Great all around CB only radio. Recieve and N/B are also very good on this radio. I dont know anything about "other" shops or there products. Ive never owned a radio from any of them. I do however own one of these and consider it money well spent.

If I've read the descriptions properly, here's the breakdown of the 2-versions. High Power Edition -- Cobra 29-LTD Black Chrome Chassis -- Mosfet Final -- Sparkified Version of Super-Swing Modification -- Receive Pre-Amp -- Modded Modulation Circuit -- Final output ~2.5 watt deadkey, swinging to just less than 50 watts. -- $169.95 Stealth High Power Edition -- Cobra 29-LTD Fully Chrome Chassis -- Mosfet Final -- Swing Kit -- High/Low Power Settings -- Talk-Back -- Receive Boost -- Bleed Over Filter -- Line Noise Caps -- Audio Circuit Mod -- On/Off Switch Buypass -- ST-65DX NC Mic -- $199.95 It's tough call as it which one I want to get. I prefer the black-chrome chassis of the HP, however, I'd expect Sparky to be able to substitute the black on the Stealth. I never plan to use an amp, so a high/low power setting is pretty useless for me. I have no desire to have talk-back, so that's another option that I won't use. The ST-65DX mic doesn't really impress me, as does none of the NC type mics. What's not listed on the Stealth is the approximiate dead-key and swing capabilities. It is listed for the HP version.
It's a tough call, but I think I'm leaning more towards the HP version, not the Stealth.

Hey this_is_nascar, I sent my 29ltd to Sparky to get all the "stealth" mods done to it except the talk back. It dead keys at about 3 watts and swings to better than 55 watts. I couldn't be happier with it. I would suggest the "stealth" radio, but the choice is totally up to you. Hope this helps. Good luck! Gumby

Right now I'm using it without an amp, and getting out extremly well with it. My plan is in the future ( when I can afford it) I'd like to get an amp. But for right now I'm very happy with it without one. Gumby

Gumby are you getting any real distance from that radio or is it just really loud at short distances? I'm not sure how far you'd get with only a 2/3 watt dead-key.

This_is_nascar, On average I'm getting out 15-20 miles. When I'm "near" someone they tell me it's like i'm sitting right next to them. I think it helps too that my antenna is mounted on the roof of my pickup. Gumby

wvridgerunner, I got a DX-919 with a TG mod back in Feb for the GF's truck. Its rocks. Her only and biggest complaint....not back light. It hasn't stopped, the complaining that is, so I'm thinking off the DX 929 with blue lights.just my $.02 binrat

I wanted to bump this up to the top again, in hopes that I could get a definative answer to the performance differences between the HP and the Stealth versions of the 29. I've had the 29 for some time now and despite what I install the mobile, I still get the best reports from the 29 HP radio. I wondering if the Stealth version is an bigger performer. ---------- "... it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you, it's what you leave behind you when you go."

"Better" is a relative term. Will the stealth version do "better"? Yes. Is it a "oh my god" kind of better...probably not. The difference in output is about 10 watts peak. The extra filtering will probably allow the Stealth to hear a bit better and pull out those far away ground wave contacts. preacherman

I can say this for the 29HP, it works great,I love mine and thanks to Sparky.I get great reports and have reached out to at least 15 miles through the hills and hollows. I don't get near the interstate that often.I can only imagine the dx I will get on flatter terrain. ---------- Dave:"The World On Time"

I got a 29HP today,,,sure is "purdy",,, almost hate to use it,,, should just put it on display in the living room in a lighted glass case,,,the wife would just love that, she may put me in a pine box for buying it. So,,,, is there a need to replace the 2 amp fuse in power cord , or will a 2 amp fuse handle the extra "pop" the radio has ? ----------

Bubba , That was my question too, when I got mine . If I remember correctly ; Doug (RADIOTEK) suggested a 7 amp fuse for the Stealth . I am using a 7a. & I have had no problem with it. Good Luck & ENJOY it .

I had the same thing happen I forgot the fuse that comes with it the 2 amp and it blew in about 5 seconds and I replaced it also with a 7 amp. AS of now no more problems so go with the 7 amp fuse if you get one of these monster radios. ---------- Jerry CB27MAN/593/LP KB2SCC NJ

Just to clear up my understanding of the B/C HP: There is NO talk back or echo on this radio, correct? However I am sure it can be added, correct? Sounds like this radio gets the "upper hand" over the Stealth based on all the posts.
